AW YONG CHOR LEONG is the Head of Actuarial of Labuan Reinsurance (L) Berhad since July 2019. He is a Fellow of Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a First Class Honours graduate from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. Chor Leong oversees the Actuarial Reserves of the Company and other actuarial assignments including pricing, capital management, portfolio optimisation and asset-liability management. 

Chor Leong is one of the few qualified actuaries in Malaysia in the Reinsurance sector. He began his career in Asia Capital Reinsurance Malaysia and ACR Retakaful SEA, where he also extended his actuarial services to ACR Group Holdings Singapore. In ACR, he developed a Facultative Property Rating Tool and is the first reinsurer to do locally. Rating tools are now standard across the reinsurance market.

Subsequently, he accumulated experiences in a boutique consulting firm and then moved on to QBE Insurance Malaysia Bhd and The Pacific Insurance Bhd, which meant that he has extensive knowledge in commercial lines, personal lines, medical and health insurances as well. 

He is an active volunteer in the Casualty Actuarial Society and is one of the founding members for the CAS’s University Insider program in South East Asia which promulgates the society’s presence in the region. He also speaks in the CAS international conferences and meetings across the United States on topics relating to the Asia insurance market.
