JOHANA ERA ZAINUDIN was appointed as the Principal Officer of Labuan Re in January 2014, and later re-designated as its Chief Executive Officer in May 2014.
She graduated in BSc Economics majoring in Finance and Marketing Psychology in 1994 from The Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.
She began her career in investment banking in the area of corporate finance. Having served two investment banks for a span of seven years, Johana was involved in various corporate activities such as the restructuring of companies, M&As, and fund raising exercises. She then joined an international management consulting firm where she developed the shareholder value-added models and strategic plans for corporations and a multilateral organisation.
She joined Labuan Re in 2002 as its Chief Investment Officer, where she had restructured the Investment Department to play a direct active role in the capital market. While in Labuan Re, she obtained her MBA from Australia. She was subsequently given the additional duties as the Company Alternate Secretary and the Head of the Lloyd’s Department.
Johana sits on the Board of Labuan Re Underwriting Limited (a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Labuan Re, which is also a Corporate Member at Lloyd’s of London). She is also a Board member of the Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers (FAIR).
ZAID AZIZ IBRAHIM joined on February 17th 2020 as the Chief Underwriting Officer/Senior Vice President of Labuan Re, bringing with him 13 years of regional reinsurance underwriting experience from Allianz Re Singapore and Asia Capital Reinsurance Group Pte Ltd. Prior to this, he worked in Tenaga Risk Management & Services (a JV with Tenaga Nasional Berhad), Marsh Insurance Brokers. His most recent appointment was in QBE Insurance Malaysia, hence providing a complete circuit of the insurance industry from the end user, broker, insurer and reinsurer.
He graduated from The Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania with a BSc in Economics majoring in Actuarial Science and Finance.
CELINE CHU SIAK NEE joined in March 2022 as the Chief Investment Officer / Vice President of Labuan Re.
She graduated with a Bsc. Science (Agribusiness) from Universiti Putra Malaysia, KL.
She began her career in investment as an analyst. Having served two insurances companies for a span of 10 years, Celine was involved in credit and equity analyst covering different companies and sectors. She then joined ING Insurance and AIA Bhd. as Portfolio Manager, managing local and foreign equity portfolios.
Prior to joining Labuan Re, she was with AIA Pension and Asset Management Sdn Bhd as a Senior Portfolio Manager, managing the equity and fixed income portfolios. She is a holder of a capital markets services representative’s licence.
KENLIX LEE YEE WEE joined on January 3rd 2022 as the Chief Financial Officer / Vice President of Labuan Re.
He is a Chartered Accountant and members with Malaysian Institute of Accountants (MIA), the Chartered Institute of Management Accountant (CIMA), UK and the Association of International Certified Professional Accountants.
Kenlix brings with him 23 years of international work experience in the industries such as Life & General insurance and Takaful, Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) and Manufacturing. He was responsible for regional and national financial reporting, treasury management, regional corporate exercises in terms of Merger & Requisition (M&A), Series B and C funding, setting up foreign owned business entity and Initial Public Offering (IPO).
He began his career in the manufacturing sector and subsequently moved onto FMCG industry with a total length of 13 years’ work experience recorded. He held different positions and was actively involved in cost modelling, fund raising, cross border’s activities as well as supervising 9 Asian countries from the perspective of financial reporting, investment, taxation and corporate exercises during the tenure.
Subsequently, he joined Sun Life Malaysia Assurance Berhad and was entrusted for overseeing finance and accounting portfolios including treasury management, bank reconciliation, investment back office and legacy projects.
2 years later, he joined MCIS Insurance Berhad with roles for certain regulatory reporting and finance operations as treasury management, insurance agents’ remuneration and governance, investment operations and etc. During his 7 years of employment with MCIS, Kenlix contributed to 3 major Merger and Acquisitions involving Zurich Life & General Insurance Malaysia, Pacific Insurance Berhad and Sanlam Group, South Africa. He was also entrusted to lead country and industry wide activities introduced by Bank Negara Malaysia and Life Insurance Association of Malaysia namely, Balanced Scorecard, Cheque-less and Cashless campaigns, digital database for Unclaimed Money, E-payment gateway & E-wallet and online insurance products.
In 2020, he left MCIS Insurance Berhad and assumed the position of Chief Financial Officer in PT Resources Holdings Berhad with the key duty to lead the exercises of Initial Public Offering and corporate restructuring.
AW YONG CHOR LEONG is the Head of Actuarial of Labuan Reinsurance (L) Berhad since July 2019. He is a Fellow of Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a First Class Honours graduate from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. Chor Leong oversees the Actuarial Reserves of the Company and other actuarial assignments including pricing, capital management, portfolio optimisation and asset-liability management.
Chor Leong is one of the few qualified actuaries in Malaysia in the Reinsurance sector. He began his career in Asia Capital Reinsurance Malaysia and ACR Retakaful SEA, where he also extended his actuarial services to ACR Group Holdings Singapore. In ACR, he developed a Facultative Property Rating Tool and is the first reinsurer to do locally. Rating tools are now standard across the reinsurance market.
Subsequently, he accumulated experiences in a boutique consulting firm and then moved on to QBE Insurance Malaysia Bhd and The Pacific Insurance Bhd, which meant that he has extensive knowledge in commercial lines, personal lines, medical and health insurances as well.
He is an active volunteer in the Casualty Actuarial Society and is one of the founding members for the CAS’s University Insider program in South East Asia which promulgates the society’s presence in the region. He also speaks in the CAS international conferences and meetings across the United States on topics relating to the Asia insurance market.
Patrick is the Chief Information Officer of Labuan Re. He joined the Company in Feb 2022.
Patrick has been in the IT industry with over 28 years of experience, primarily focusing on the insurance/takaful industry in the last 25 years. He has a wide range of experience ranging from managing the entire information technology lifecycle from core system development to front-end web development, end-user computing, infrastructure management, IT operations management, IT procurement, and IT risk management. Before joining Labuan Re, he was with Syarikat Takaful Keluarga Malaysia Bhd as the Chief Information Officer for over 12 years; before that, he was with ING Insurance Berhad.
Patrick holds a Master of Science (Management) from Asia e-University, Kuala Lumpur, and a Bachelor of Information Technology (Business Information System) from HELP Institute, Kuala Lumpur, with affiliation from Charles Sturt University, Australia.
JOSEPHINE WOO WAI FUN has joined in May 2022 as Risk and Compliance Officer.
Josephine has more than 16 years experience in risk management and compliance with regional exposures and worked in Sydney and Hong Kong prior to relocating to Malaysia. She has rich expertise as both a risk management and compliance practitioner and consultant. Josephine has vast industry knowledge specifically in financial institutions, insurance, asset management, payment systems operators, development financial institutions and government-linked companies. This includes both conventional and Islamic principles businesses. Additionally, her role involved liaising with the local regulators of the regional countries. Panel speakers for global conference for various topics on risk management and compliance which includes business resilience, cybersecurity, data analytics and ESG.
In areas of education, Josephine has completed the course on various risk certifications including CISSP (Certified Information Systems Security Professional). Josephine is a board member for global risk advisory and current committee member of the global risk professional certification.
WILLIAM CHEONG WENG CHAN joined in June 2022 as Head of Human Resources & Administration.
William has over 20 years in Human Resources from insurance, banking and information technology sectors with involvements in strategic human resources, merger & acquisition and industrial relations. Prior to joining Labuan Re, he was previously the Head of Human Resources at The Pacific Insurance Berhad and also, with AmGeneral Insurance Berhad/Kurnia Insurans.
William holds a Master in Business Administration and a Bachelor of Science in Finance from Northwest Missouri and a Science with Education from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. He was a former scholar under the AIG Starr Foundation, New York.
RAMES SUPRAMANIAM joined on September 17th 2021 as the Head of Claims / Assistant Vice President. Rames brings with him 12 years of Loss Adjusting experience with various leading Loss Adjusting companies namely, MSM Loss Adjusters, Cunningham & Lindsey Loss Adjusters and Malaysian Broadwides Loss Adjusters. Prior to this he worked in Marsh Insurance Brokers for 7 years, handling various client’s claims and in-charge for claims recoveries from various Co & Reinsurers. He graduated with Higher Diploma in Computer Science and a Senior Associate member of The Australian and New Zealand Institute of Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) also member of the Australasian Institute of Chartered Loss Adjusters (AICLA).
