Management Team

JOHANA ERA ZAINUDIN was appointed as the Principal Officer of Labuan Re in January 2014, and later re-designated as its Chief Executive Officer in May 2014.

She graduated in BSc of Economics majoring in Finance and Marketing Psychology in 1994 from The Wharton Business School, University of Pennsylvania, USA.

She began her career in investment banking in the area of corporate finance. Having served two investment banks for a span of seven years, Johana was involved in various corporate exercises such as the restructuring of companies, M&As, and fund raising issuances. She then joined an international management consulting firm where she developed the shareholder value-added models, strategic plans and business plans for corporations and a multilateral organisation.

She joined Labuan Re in 2002 as its Chief Investment Officer, where she had restructured the Investment Department to play a more direct active role in the capital market. While in Labuan Re, she obtained her MBA from Australia. She was subsequently given the additional duties as the Company Alternate Secretary and the Head of the Lloyd’s Investment Division, where the Company participates in a few Lloyd’s of London syndicates which are involved in the global insurance and reinsurance businesses.

Johana sits on the Board of Labuan Re Underwriting Limited (a wholly-owned subsidiary company of Labuan Re, which is also a Corporate Member at Lloyd’s of London) and the Global Takaful Group.  She is also a Board member of the Federation of Afro-Asian Insurers and Reinsurers (FAIR), representing Malaysia.


MAUREEN J. KANANONG is the Chief Investment Officer / Senior Vice President of Labuan Re.

Maureen joined the Company as an Accounts Executive in January 1997. She was transferred to the Investment Department in 1998 where she has built her investment management experience. She was a Vice President since July 2013 before assuming her present position in December 2016.

She graduated from the University of Liverpool, UK in 1992 with a BA (Hons) in Accounting.

ZAID AZIZ IBRAHIM joined on February 17th 2020 as the Chief Underwriting Officer/Senior Vice President of Labuan Re, bringing with him 13 years of regional reinsurance underwriting experience from Allianz Re Singapore and Asia Capital Reinsurance Group Pte Ltd. Prior to this, he worked in Tenaga Risk Management & Services (a JV with Tenaga Nasional Berhad), Marsh Insurance Brokers. His most recent appointment was in QBE Insurance Malaysia, hence providing a complete circuit of the insurance industry from the end user, broker, insurer and reinsurer.

He graduated from The Wharton Business School of the University of Pennsylvania with a BSc in Economics majoring in Actuarial Science and Finance.

KOK YEW KONG is the Chief Financial Officer / Senior Vice President of Labuan Re.

He is a Fellow of the Association of Chartered Accountants ( FCCA ) and a Chartered Accountant with the Malaysia Institute of Accountants ( MIA ). 

He brings along more than 25 years of experience in financial management in the insurance industry both in Malaysia and Singapore. Prior to joining Labuan Re, he was the Chief Financial Officer of QBE Insurance (Singapore) Pte Ltd (2016-2018) where he successfully implemented a few key projects, e.g. Finance Transformation, Oracle GL System and Profit Improvement Plans. He also spent 8 years as the Company Secretary/Assistant General Manager with QBE Insurance ( Malaysia ) Berhad (2008-2016) and another 13 years as Assistant Vice President for Finance with MSIG Insurance ( Malaysia ) Berhad (1996-2008).

AW YONG CHOR LEONG was appointed Vice President, Head of Actuarial of Labuan Reinsurance (L) Berhad in July 2019.

Chor Leong is one of the few qualified actuaries in Malaysia to specialise in Actuarial Pricing. He had led two direct insurers through the Phased Liberalisation of Motor and Fire Tariffs.  He implemented a unique method to complement risk-based pricing and to optimise the company’s risk selection, which set its pricing apart from competitors and subsequently led to strong underwriting results post implementation.  The method is still being practised today.  His other Actuarial Pricing experience was with a local reinsurer and retakaful operator, where he developed a Facultative Property Rating Tool and is the first reinsurer to do so locally.  Rating tools are now standard across the market.

In Labuan Re, Chor Leong oversees the Actuarial Reserves of the Company and other actuarial assignments including pricing, capital management, portfolio optimisation and asset-liability management.

He is a Fellow of Casualty Actuarial Society (FCAS) and a First Class Honours graduate from University of Malaya, Kuala Lumpur. He is an active volunteer in the CAS and is one of the founding members for the CAS’s University Insider Program in South East Asia which promulgates the society’s presence in the region. 

EVELYN SIMON KINAJIL is the Head 0f Claims and Retrocession Recovery at LabuanRe.

She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration (Hons) Marketing and a Diploma in Insurance (MII). She began her career as an Account Officer with Sabah Shipyard Sdn Bhd, Labuan prior to joining Labuan Re.

She was transferred to the Claims Department in 2006 to manage the Claims & Treaty Administration operations. She was assigned to handle the Retrocession Recovery portfolio in 2013 and the Credit Control portfolio in 2017. She was promoted to her current position in 2017. 

RAYMOND J. RAJAYAH is the Risk and Compliance Officer/Assistant Vice President of Labuan Re and holds a Diploma in Accounting (LCCI). He began his career at the Industrial Bank of Japan as an Account Executive in 1996.

He joined Labuan Re in 2002 as an Assistant Manager in the Administration Department and was transferred to the Corporate Development Department in 2003. He was then transferred to the Risk and Compliance Department in 2006 and subsequently assumed his present position in 2017.

ROHAYU HJ IDRIS has more than 17 years of professional experience in Human Resources with extensive exposure in operational and strategic Human Resources.

Prior to this appointment, Rohayu was heading the Market Training & Learning for Nestle Malaysia. During her 10-year tenure at Nestle, Rohayu took on several assignment at several Nestle Manufacturing Malaysia as well as Nestle Products Malaysia. Before that, she has assumed various HR related roles at NEC Semiconductors, a Japanese multinational company. With more than 17 years on the workforce, her vast experience encompasses broad range in the field of HR and her knowledge and exposure are mainly in the area of remunerations, talent management, training, recruitment and leadership development. Rohayu graduated from Universiti Teknologi Mara with Bachelor of Business Administration.

She joined Labuan Re on February 7th 2019 as the Head of Human Resources & Administration.

LIM WAI MENG is the Assistant Vice President & Head of Special Portfolio and Retrocession. He holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) Actuarial Science and an Associate in Insurance (AMII). Started his career as a Facultative Broker in JB Boda and moved to Labuan Re in 2012 handling the Treaty underwriting for North Asia Region. His portfolio later expanded into the Company’s outward retrocession and Investment in Lloyd’s.
